Well we’ve come to the conclusion of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Season. In all the glee you might have missed which band one band of the year, who won King and Queen of the bands, and most importantly who claimed the road.

Who says you can’t work in your third trimester of pregnancy? Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez defied all odds when she claimed the Groovy Monarch Title with her song “Heavy T Bumper”, Power Monarch Title with her song “Meet Super Blue” as well as road march title with “Meet Super Blue” which played on the road 410 times. Fay-Ann showed the world this year who really is the boss by working hard taking on criticism while delivering stellar performances.

On the road she did not perform but that didn’t stop many revelers from showing their support each and every time her song came on. Rags, flags, hands, beers, powder you name it something was in the air every time the intro started “Hands up…Hands up…Hands up” Fay-Ann truly won the road and took Trinidad by storm. She leaves this Carnival season by being the first female artist to win Power Soca Monarch. In all the glee Destra Garcia came in second with her song “Bacchanal” which played 76 times on the road.

Surprisingly for the adult Band of the year winners were names of bands most people new to Trinidad Mas are not familiar with. There was no Tribe, Island People in the top 4 slots. The winners for the 2009 band of the year title went to; Mini band of the year went to Henry Ramdin and Associates with their portrayal of “Red Indian Days”. And the Large band of the year George Bailey Award went to Brian Mac Farlene and Associates with their presentation of “Africa, her people, her glory, her tears”. This band won with 1378 points.

With the world wide economic crisis people still flocked to Trinidad and Tobago mother of Carnival. While lent is in full swing some are repenting for the mischief they committed this past carnival season. While others think of what mischief they could commit for the Carnivals to come. Carnival season now start and I hope all of you are geared up for Jamaica, Vincy Mas, Crop Over, Antigua Mas, Grenada Mas, St. Lucia mas right back up to the states. Traveling to the Caribbean is becoming easier everyday. See you there.
