Hi Everyone, My name is Michelle and I am a new contributing author to this site!! I  have a blog called Carnival Addicts, I don’t  know if some of you know about it, that blog was also home to Bags by Mimi where masqueraders can order custom made bags to match your carnival costume!

Much like my introduction to you, a Carnival Band, Spice made its debut into Trindad Carnival this year (2009) with its presentation entitled “The Missing Ingredient”. Their presentation was new, dazzling and different! However with other bands such as Evolution which debuted in 2008 leaving sour tastes in people’s mouths masqueraders were hesitant. Because lets face it, A carnival costume is now an investment, with the amount of money spent on costumes, accessories also including airfare, and lodge and board for foreigners combined with a world wide recession….masqueraders were tightening their belts, and investing in mas, meant making wise investments; i.e. sticking with the what we know!

I, however took the chance and played in Spice’s section Scotch Bonnet and had a ball!!! As a masquerader who has been part of the ‘ultimate experience’ I had to give Spice two thumbs up for their impeccable service on and off the road. Of Course with every band there are issues, First problem was the payment process simply took too long!  Spice registering people at various venues aside from their mas camp ended up in confusion as cashiers couldn’t locate receipts quickly, thus resulting in a backlog. Perhaps the solution of advocating different cashiers to respective venues, for example persons who registered in Prive Night Club at the first Cashier, In House at the second and third cashier. Second problem was the height of the bar trucks on the road. The bar was simply too high,  more than 6′ off the ground, thus making it difficult for masqueraders to reach. Other than that service was A Class!

With that being said, apparently Spice made a huge impression creating double the excitement for their sophmore presentation “The Spice Route“. Sunday 19th July at Zen Night Club Spice hosted its looked to an almost full house. Their theme was portrayed by gorgeous costumes and headpieces. Some show stopping sections such as Thailand, Greece,  Ceylon Pearls and North Star, just to name a few, made the crowd break out into applause. Needless to say I was impressed and Spice will definitely be my home from now on, with great service and costumes, what more can I ask for.

So, Spice Vs. Tribe? There is a tribe launch in new york I think I will check it out. A lot of mas bands have that problem with finding registration you should go do a over haul for them and tighten their tails up.

  4. True, oh so true. Spice this year should be big though
