Masqueraders Crossing A stage After TRIBE's 2010 Band Launch some were left disappointed, others excited. I for one felt as though this was one TRIBE's inferior presentations and they could've done much better. Maybe it was the change of the band's theme that set the costumes off. The Presentation originally named "The Silk Road" was deemed too close to "The Spice Route" as a result the name was changed to "The Secrets of Silk". Outsourcing Our Culture : Carnival Moves From Trinidad to the Caribbean to Asia As a child during carnival my mother would drive me to different mas tents to see what camp had what theme for that year. Some themes we saw repeatedly, some tents were so colorful, some costumes we thought lack luster but what we saw consistently were vibrant mas men and woman; cutting, pasting, coloring, stitching, glittering a costume down, all while dancing to sweet Soca music. Red Warriors was conceived out of the pure love and passion for carnival. It is our vision to bring a little of our “on de road” experience from Trinidad to New York. Sisters, Tracy and Denise felt that there was something missing with regards to the West Indian Carnival Parade which takes place in Brooklyn, New York, on the 1st Monday in September each year. Mas at Sesame began at the interception of the organization with the children and adults both being involved in the production and participation. Since no one in the organization was really versed in the actual mas making, we decided to do something simple with printed Tee Shirts and sailor caps with Silhouettes Steel Orchestra supplying the beautiful music and we looked fantastic. Although the production was a big hit with our members and supporters, the adults lost interest in playing mas the following year. He won the "Road March" title an impressive ten times.
